Vin Scully's Bowdlerized Translation Of Jim Tracy's Meltdown Tonight Is One Of Broadcasting's Great Moments [Video]

Aug 7, 2012 1:03 AM

Vin Scully's Bowdlerized Translation Of Jim Tracy's Meltdown Tonight Is One Of Broadcasting's Great Moments Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully is a national treasure for myriad reasons, but we saw just one facet of his abilities tonight, when umpires declared a liner off Shane Victorino's bat to have been trapped by Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler. It would have been the third out of the inning, and it sent Colorado manager Jim Tracy on a verbal warpath—one Scully did his best to lipread, then translate into language for suitable for television.

After the whole thing was over, and Tracy had been sent packing, Scully drolly noted "We have all this technology and they don't use it because they say it would delay the game. Well, what was that we just saw?" We welcome any and all future opportunities to allow Vin Scully to further demonstrate why he's the greatest there ever was, and likely ever will be. Join Us Tonight At 10 For What Should Be A Lively Discussion With Minnesota Vikings Punter Chris Kluwe [Chris Kluwe]

Aug 1, 2012 3:40 PM

Join Us Tonight At 10 For What Should Be A Lively Discussion With Minnesota Vikings Punter Chris KluweAside from being an NFL punter, Chris Kluwe is many things. Video gamer. Picture of calm. Maker of parodies. Defender of punters everywhere. Gawker comment troll. And at 10 p.m. (EDT), Kluwe will be right here taking questions directly from Deadspin readers. The floor down in the discussion will be yours, so feel free to ask him about anything and everything. For reals, this should be fun.

We know it will be kind of late (at least on the east coast), but Kluwe's at training camp and that's the only time he said he wouldn't be dicking around on Guitar Hero was available. Besides, by that time you'll already know what happened at the Olympics anyway. Do join us.

Team USA Is A 54-Point Favorite Against Tunisia Tonight [Team USA]

Jul 31, 2012 1:40 PM

Team USA Is A 54-Point Favorite Against Tunisia TonightHot off the presses, from online sportsbook Bovada (formerly Bodog): the men's basketball team is favored by a whopping 54 points tonight. Poor Tunisia.

"In my days in this business I cannot remember setting a spread so high for a basketball game," says Kevin Bradley, Bovada's sportsbook manager. Even so, "65 percent of the money is still coming in on the USA and the pace has been steadily increasing all morning."

So, 54 points? That's sort of insane-sounding, but the U.S. women did beat Angola by 52 yesterday. With an over/under of 164, Vegas is expecting a final score in the neighborhood of 109-55. That's a per-quarter score of about 27-14. So while Tunisia may not have much of a chance at a competitive game tonight, betting—as usual—can make it nerve-wracking.

Tip-off is at 5:15 EDT.
